Turkey May Replace China to Host 2020 Women’s VNL

In a recent interview, Akif Üstündağ, the president of the Turkish Volleyball Association, has said that Turkey will replace China to host this year’s women VNL if the coronavirus outbreak in China continues.

“Women’s Volleyball Nations League will start in May, and a few pools are held in China (Tianjin, Ningbo, Jiangmen, Hong Kong, Macao). We are very concerned about the development of the coronavirus outbreak in China. As one of the world-class volleyball countries, we have a lot of achievements in hosting this kind of competition and we have a lot of outstanding organizations which can hold the competition.” said Akif Üstündağ.

“Regarding China hosting Volleyball Nations League, we also hope we can do something to make it happen in Turkey. I already talked to the President of FIVB, and he is very happy with this. I told him if the final is cancelled, we will be prepared to take over.”

“As a country, in such a difficult moment, we are real friends. If the coronavirus outbreak continues, we hope they can let us host as soon as possible. We hope they can make the decision early. We are not an incompetent association. We have a lot of achievement, and that’s why we are proud of our association.”

China will be hosting all five pools in the preliminary round and the final round:

Week 1 : Ningbo

Week 2 : Tianjin

Week 3: Macao

Week 4: Hong Kong

Week 5: Jiangmen

Final: Nanjing
