Egonu Returns to Italy National Team but likely miss out on VNL

According to a report by famous Italian volleyball journalist Gianluca Pasini, Paola Egonu have held talks with Italian coach Davide Mazzanti regarding the upcoming national team season. The Italian player confirms that she can return to the national team, but will likely miss out on the 2023 Volleyball Nations League, which will start on 30 May 2023.

After Italy failed to win the 2022 FIVB World Championships last year, Egonu suffered from racial abuse as one of the team’s key players. The Italian opposite then decided to take a break from the national team.

Besides the 2023 Volleyball Nations League, the Italian team will also participate in the CEV EuroVolley 2023 starting in mid-August and the Paris 2024 qualifiers held in September this year.
