Attitude Reward Italy Victory in VNL 2023

On June 16, in the third match of the VNL 2023 played in Hong Kong, Italy defeated the Dominican Republic in a thrilling five-set match, with a final score of 3-2 (25-16, 16-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-10). This victory marked Italy’s third win in six matches, while the Dominican Republic remain with two wins. Sylvia Nwakalor was the top scorer of the match, scoring 21 points for Italy.

After the match, we interviewed the captain of the Dominican Republic, Niverka Marte, to hear her thoughts on the match. She said that her team had been doing well until they lost communication and became despondent, focusing too much on their mistakes.

We also spoke with the top scorer of the match, Sylvia Nwakalor, about the key to Italy’s victory. She cited the team’s positive attitude as the crucial factor, especially when facing an opponent with a lot of attitude and character. Nwakalor also credited the team’s togetherness in sets four and five for their comeback, as well as their strength and good attitude throughout the match.

Neither team will play on the following day, with Italy scheduled to face the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic set to play Canada on June 17 in their next matches.
