Lang Ping Still Plans to Retire after Tokyo Olympics
In a recent interview with CGTN, Lang Ping, the head coach of the Chinese national women’s volleyball team, said she still plans to retire after the Tokyo Olympics.
“I have not considered changing my decision (of retiring after Tokyo Olympics) so far,” said Lang. “Currently, we just need to focus on training and prepare for the Olympics next year.”
Initially, Lang’s contract with the Chinese national women’s volleyball team expires this year after the Olympics. Since the Tokyo Olympics has postponed for a year due to the ongoing pandemic, Lang has also extended her contract with the team.
Back in October 2019, Lang has already revealed that she will retire soon when being asked of her future plans. In January 2020, she has also said she looks forward to her retired life, when she will have less pressure and more free time to live the life she wants to, and spending more time with her daughter.
The iron hammer has a successful career both playing and coaching. She is the first person in volleyball history to acquire the Olympic gold both as a player and a coach as well as back-to-back World Cup champions in both roles. Back when the iconic coach was a spiker, she has also won the world championship.
Lang Ping is undoubtedly one of the most successful individuals in the history of volleyball. Can Lang lead the Chinese national women’s volleyball team to victory once again in Tokyo 2020 and mark a perfect ending to her volleyball career?
