Türkiye’s Strong Defense and Serving Leads Victory over Canada

In Week 2 Pool 3 of VNL held in Hong Kong, Türkiye triumphed over Canada in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-20). Turkish opposite Vargas and Canadian outside hitter Gray both emerged as the top scorers of the match, contributing 17 points each to their respective teams.

With this victory, Türkiye now holds a record of 5 wins in 7 matches, while Canada has a record of 3 wins in 7 matches.

During the post-match interview, Gray attributed their team’s loss in part to an insufficiently strong defense, blocking, and serving. She also noted that the Turkish side was in system a significant amount of the time.

Our journalist also asked Howe about the biggest challenge faced by team Canada in the match against Türkiye. The Canadian outside hitter admitted that the opposition played very well, and explained that Türkiye’s sizeable block and their ability to defend many balls made scoring difficult. Describing the match as challenging, Howe also pointed out some positive takeaways, such as their near-comeback in the second set after being down by 8 or 9 points, which demonstrated the team’s resilience.

Looking ahead, Team Canada is set to face the Dominican Republic in their next match on June 17. Team captain Alexa Gray anticipates a good game and hopes for her team to bounce back. Türkiye, on the other hand, will play against the Dominican Republic on the final day of Week 2, June 18.
