Today’s article features highlights of June 13 from the VNL 2024 Week 3 Pool 5 in Hong Kong, based on the official press release, with editing and video interviews conducted and recorded by Boris CHUNG Bok Man, Volleypolis.

Organized by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China (“VBAHK”) and presented by China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited (“China Life (Overseas)”), the Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong 2024 (“VNLHK2024”) entered its third day of matches today (June 13) at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The day kicked off with a thrilling five-set battle between team Thailand and team Bulgaria, with Thailand narrowly clinching victory. Meanwhile, the top two ranked teams in the world, team Türkiye and team Brazil, continued their winning streaks in this stage of the competition.

In the first match of the day, team Thailand and team Bulgaria, both eager for their first win of the week after previous defeats, gave their all in a fiercely contested match. After a nail-biting five-set battle, team Thailand emerged victorious with a set score of 3:2 (25:23, 22:25, 25:18, 22:25, 15:10).

The second match saw the only undefeated team in the competition, Brazil, face off against Germany. Building on their victory against Poland yesterday, team Brazil once again demonstrated their attacking prowess. Brazil’s captain, Gabriela Guimaraes, delivered a stellar performance, scoring 28 points and leading her team to a 3:1 (25:20, 25:22, 21:25, 26:24) victory, securing their second win in this leg of the tournament. Team Germany, having suffered two consecutive defeats, will face team China next, who currently hold a win-loss record of 6-3.

The last match of the day featured team Türkiye against team Dominican Republic. Despite a slow start and losing the first set, team Türkiye quickly adjusted and staged a comeback, winning the next three sets to secure a 3:1 (17:25, 25:15, 25:17, 25:18) victory. Team Dominican Republic’s win-loss record fell to 3-7 after the match.

After three days of intense competition in Hong Kong, fans can look forward to more exciting clashes tomorrow (June 14). In Pool 5, the first match will feature team Brazil against team Bulgaria at 1:30 PM, followed by the second match at 5 PM, where team Dominican Republic will face team Poland. Team China will then compete against team Germany in the final match of the day at 8:30 PM, hoping to achieve back-to-back victories in the competition.
