VNL 2024 June 14: Pool 5 Highlights and Interviews
Today’s article features highlights of June 14 from the VNL 2024 Week 3 Pool 5 in Hong Kong, based on the official press release, with editing and video interviews conducted and recorded by Boris CHUNG Bok Man, Volleypolis.
Organized by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China (“VBAHK”) and presented by China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited (“China Life (Overseas)”), the “Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong 2024 presented by China Life (Overseas)” (“VNLHK2024”) continued with thrilling action on the fourth day of Week 3 (June 14) at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Team China, fresh off securing their qualification for Paris 2024, notched their second victory of the week by defeating team Germany. Before this, team Brazil and team Poland claimed victories over team Bulgaria and team Dominican Republic, respectively, to maintain their positions at the top of the league standings.
The VNL 2024 Finals and the final five spots for Paris 2024 will be decided after this week’s matches in Hong Kong and Fukuoka. Team Brazil, current leaders in the table, faced off against team Bulgaria. In a dominant performance, Brazil swept Bulgaria with a score of 3:0 (25:11, 25:11, 25:23), extending their undefeated streak to eleven matches. They are now on the brink of making history as the first team in VNL history to complete the preliminary round without a single loss. Conversely, team Bulgaria will be seeking their second victory in tomorrow’s match.
After having their winning streak snapped by team Brazil, team Poland regained their form against team Dominican Republic. Despite early challenges, Poland stabilized their performance and triumphed with a set score of 3:0 (33:31, 25:20, 25:16). With this result, team Dominican Republic holds a 3-8 record and will face team Bulgaria next.
With team Japan and team Netherlands both defeated in Pool 6, team China secured their Olympic qualification and reclaimed their position as the top Asian team. Back on home court, China faced off against team Germany, with star player Zhu Ting in the starting lineup. Team China delivered a solid performance, winning 3:0 (25:19, 25:17, 25:18), improving their record to 7-3 and edging closer to the VNL Finals in Bangkok.
Tomorrow marks the fifth day of Week 3, featuring three exciting matches in Pool 5 in Hong Kong (All time are in Hong Kong time, GMT +8):
1:30 PM: Dominican Republic vs. team Bulgaria
5:00 PM: Poland vs. Thailand
8:30 PM: China vs. Türkiye
