VNL 2024 June 16: Pool 5 Highlights and Interviews

Today’s article features highlights from June 16 of the VNL 2024 Week 3 Pool 5 in Hong Kong, based on the official press release, with editing and video interviews conducted and recorded by Boris CHUNG Bok Man, Volleypolis.

Organized by the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China (VBAHK) and presented by China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited (China Life (Overseas)), the Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong 2024 presented by China Life (Overseas) (VNLHK2024) concluded today (June 16) at the Hong Kong Coliseum. In the first match, team Germany achieved a dominant victory over team Thailand, with both teams concluding their VNL 2024 preliminary round with three wins each. On the other hand, team Brazil secured a straight-set win over team Türkiye, becoming the first team ever in VNL history to remain unbeaten in the preliminary round. In the final match of the preliminary round, team China swept team Poland 3-0, successfully winning all four matches this week.

Team Germany demonstrated their superb skills in both attack and block in today’s match against team Thailand, eventually prevailing with a straight-set victory (25:17, 25:21, 25:20), concluding their VNL 2024 campaign with a win.

The second match of the day featured a battle between two top teams in the VNL. Team Brazil displayed strong reception skills and blocking ability, which contributed to their straight-set victory (25:14, 25:14, 25:19), finishing their preliminary round on a high note, dominating with twelve consecutive wins.

The concluding match of the Hong Kong Leg was a showdown between team China and team Poland. Team China made timely adjustments after frequent mistakes at the beginning and took control of the game, ultimately shutting down team Poland with a 3-0 victory (25:23, 25:15, 25:19), finishing their final week with four wins, while team Poland concluded their preliminary round campaign with ten wins in twelve matches.

Following the conclusion of the six-day tournament in Week 3 Pool 5 in Hong Kong, eight teams will compete in the VNL 2024 Finals, which will commence on June 20 in Bangkok, Thailand. Brazil, Italy, Poland, China, Japan, Türkiye, USA, and host Thailand will battle in the finals and fight for the title.
